Whole Grain Health and Nutrition with Sarah Remmer

Hi there! My name is Sarah Remmer and i’m a registered
dietitian and mom of three. I’m here today to talk to you about the benefits
of whole-grain whole wheat, which is one of our favourite ingredients. I love the fact that it’s so versatile, it
comes in so many different forms and it’s so easy to use. I also love that it’s cost effective and that
it’s locally grown here in Alberta. As a registered dietitian, I love the fact
that whole-grain whole wheat is jam-packed full of nutrition. Not only is it really a great source of dietary
fibre, which has so many health benefits like blood sugar control and heart-health benefits,
but also it has a whole lineup of essential vitamins and minerals. Things like iron, potassium, folate and vitamin
B6…things that are really important for growth and development in kids and general
health. I’m part a really cool program called Life’s
Simple Ingredient and if you visit LifesSimpleIngredient.ca you’ll find that there’s lots of healthy and
tasty recipes that your whole family will love. Our favourite is the veggie mac and cheese. Even my picky eater loves it and devours it. I tell parents that have picky eaters to widen
their palettes and to help their kids eat a little bit more adventurously. My most common tip is to include a courteous food with every meal that you feel your child might not love. A courteous food is something that you know
your child will love and that’s still nutritious. For us, that’s often whole-grain whole wheat, so something like bread or buns or something like that. Remember to visit LifesSimpleIngredient.ca and you can also visit my website at SarahRemmer.com
