What’s In Your Fridge? | Healthy Eating Habits | KITCHENS with Grow Fit


Hello and welcome to another episode of
K.I.T.C.H.E.N.S with Grow Fit! In this show we’re
going to Kaveri’s house, who’s a busy working mother and is constantly
juggling her child, her schedule, her husband’s schedule and trying to
fit in good nutrition in the midst of all that so let’s go and check out her
kitchen and see what we find Ummm… What is this? You know what? I’m going to go raid your kitchen right now. I’ve been dying to do this forever! So what are the things you love the most about what I’ve brought out? I love my dragon fruit [for] immunity So guess what she said about this! What did you say about this? – It’s good for your
immunity
– “It’s good for immunity” Okay this, my friend, is sugar. It’s only sugar, there’s nothing else Does it actually say that?
– Yep, it’s only sugar & preservatives Can you tell me what here is ruining my eyes? The sugar, probably. Your skin, your eyes,
your hair! So this is like the perfect example of something
that you think is healthy for you and you think is okay as a snack or you
think is okay as a refreshing “immunity drink” if you please. But you think these things but then they end up being so much more detrimental to your body so
you’d rather eat the chocolate fudge and skip this, right? You’d rather eat
something that you really like and not think it’s kind of healthy. Drink the
water, flavour the water. You cut the fruits you eat in the morning suppose you’re eating guava or you’re
eating something, the edges of that, just keep dumping into a big jug, and
every 24 hours change that water. That’s vitamin water for you. You can add in honey if you want to that, add cinnamon flavor that.
– How are they allowed to say things that are not true? They are allowed to say anything. They’re a business, so. So sugar is really bad and sugar is very addictive. It’s apparently more addictive than
cocaine. more addictive than cocaine and More. Addictive. Than. Cocaine! And I love it! These I can’t live without, so I don’t know what your problem is with these. These are what make my fish sauce.
– So now if we do some research… – Be careful what you say now! This is vital in this family.
– Ohmigod, I’m getting frightened! So you know how you and Johan have struggled with food, food-related
issues that affected your body, right and and many times we thought it wasn’t food. A lot of times, I mean there is a whole hereditary angle to it, there are whole other things but this is like I’d say genes load the gun, and these things pull the trigger. Your lifestyle and your food choices pull the trigger. Okay, low-fat products! Low-fat yogurt, the low-fat dressings, everything that says “low-fat”! When you take out the fat from
something, there is no taste. So what happens? You have to put in sugar! So these are overloaded with sugar. A lot of times this has more sugar than a sugary
fizzy drink, and you’d be thinking that you’re eating healthier food by eating
this! No! This is not healthy, this is not nutritious, it does not do
anything for you. You need to eat healthier, full-fat versions. Fresher. If you
can make it at home of course that’s awesome. And these things are easy to make, you just mix them up, dump them, take them out. Have a soaking cupboard, you know. Have one shelf that’s the soaking shelf. Soak your nuts, soak your seeds, soak your dals. Do that every day as a
five-minute break from Facebook? Do that every day!
Somebody’s gonna kill me… So your question is, how do I feel now? I
think one side of me is very disturbed and the
other side is humoured. The disturbed side of me is devastated because the things
that I thought were okay to eat, I mean they didn’t have, at least on the face of
it, they didn’t have gluten, or dairy, lactose, they actually have other things! And then this whole news about sugar being bad, I mean, sugar! That’s what we
offer our children, and that’s what our children grow up on, and how can we now
suddenly say it’s bad?! Otherwise I’m so glad I got to see a side of Mariam, who I just thought was a pretty face and I always wanted to know what is the secret behind that amazing hair, that amazing skin, that amazing body and that big smile. And now I think I know. So maybe the next time you shoot me, things are gonna be different
around here! Okay, I gotta go.
