Hello! I’m sports nutritionist Zehra Bora. Welcome to my healthy, fit, energetic life. In other words, my channel. Today I’m going to tell you all the things you wonder about sustainable nutrition from a to z. Nutrition is one of our basic needs. But have we ever thought that our sources can come to an end? Of course there are people who have thought or not. Unfortunately, most of us live like the stuff we eat grows on shelves. Our meals go to waste when they become left overs or we let our meals go to waste when we are at a restaurant, outside. We junk, spend and use them up unconsciously. If we look at majority on the world, there are people who fight with hunger as well as people who try to solve their problems about obesity. There’s no balance. Both obesity and hunger increases. Actually, the thing I want to draw attention is which processes do our meals go through before getting onto our plates? Did you know that all these processes affects the future of our health and planet? Let’s discuss everything about sustainable nutrition with you. The need for nutrition increased in conjunction with population growth. Worse still, since the nutrition we eat increased waste increased too. How do our nutrition sources, leftovers are getting used by us? According to FAO sustainable nutrition means nutritious, healthy, safe and low environmental impact nutrition at the same time. Carbon footprint, water footprint and ecologic footprint are considered when effects of nutritions are being examined. Taking into account all of these, it’s seem that animal sourced nutiritons have more environmental effect than vegatable.. Unfortunately, producing animal sourced nutritions need more sources than producing vegetable nutritions. What did I mean? For instance, carbon footprint of fruits and vegetables is 55 times less than red meat’s. Besides, to produce 1 kg grain 500 litres of water is needed; to produce 1kg meat 15.000 litres of water is needed. Omnivorous menu has environmental impact 3 times more than vegetarian menu. The changes you do in your nutrition in the view of these informations, it will make a big impact. For example, If you decrease meat consumption two times in a week, you can make carbon footprint fall by half. I want to highlight that I support my dear senior and confrere Dilara Koçak’s “unique monday” slogan and want sustainable nutrition awareness to go round more. It’s good to remind that animal sourced nutrition style increases the risk of cardiovasculer diseases, liver and kidney destruction, osteoporosis connected to calcium excretion. What you can do about this? Don’t say “It wouldn’t work on my own.” One person’s behavior can change everything. Think like puzzle. You’re a piece of it. Don’t see yourself out of the puzzle. Please take responsibility. It’s good to take little steps to achieve the bigger goal. For example, take benefit from vegetarian or vegetable menus. The thing you should do is eating fruits and vegetables 5 portions in total a day. Thinking that red meat and farm animal’s ecologic footprint is more, also thinking that fish’s is less eat more fish. Prefer fish which hunted by sustainable fishery way, take season and hunting methods into consideration. Limit your meat consumption. Eat more grain and legume. Take benefit from fatty grains. Try to add milk and milk products to your daily nutrition. Try to stay away from high fat, high sugar nutritions. Again, along similar lines stay away from heat-processed food. Take care of your nutritions. Don’t fritter. Think where did they come from. Preserve your nutritions well and don’t waste. For example, you can keep your leftovers in a refrigerator, eat them the next day. You can make new meals with your leftovers. You don’t have to offer full portion when you’re outsıde, you can offer half portion too. You can take your leftovers with you. You can share them with animals and please, while preparing it avoid wastage of water and meal. Don’t use too much water and lastly make more with less. Let’s protect our home, planet, and most important, our future. Yes, the topic I’m talking about is so important for me. When we think about our planet’s future, I think everyone has a something to do. If everybody keep one’s end up, our planet can be a better place. I combined my energy with my knowledge and sharing it with you. Please don’t forget to subscribe my channel and turn on the notifications. I love you so much.
