The Fruits 5: Heart of Thorns

Hi everyone we’ve got ‘Fruits 5′ so really I
took you through the whole like Women at the Well story which if you want to
catch up those links are down below what I didn’t expect is- what God would do
with this whole fruitful thing and so when I came home- I have notes like this everywhere I mean they’re everywhere I have a total journal
problem they’re everywhere and as soon as a journal is full I recycle it unless
I like need to flip through it to write a book right but I don’t keep them and I
don’t have like designated ones really I just grab whatever one I have and then
figure out how to mark out the notes so I have this like cute journal that
someone got me off of Facebook and I’ve been working on a whole book and then I
had worked a little bit on this like here’s some more for the next video but
like this fruitful thing and so I realized I- [pause] to be fruitful to be that
joyful and faithful and unshakable to have this you know joy that overflows,
patience that endures, and faith that prevails from Galatians 5:22 I had to
repent and so I started this first one [shows journal note] with repentance like jealousy, selfish
ambition, envy, idolatry, like striving is an idol wanting success is an idol
the need to feel like I need to make money has become an idol I deserve to
make money I am worthy of making money but when it becomes an idol is when it’s
not okay and I even wrote like in Jesus’ name I rebuke these, cast out, let go, and
change I am joyful, I am faithful, I am unshakable, joy that overflows
patience that endures, faith that prevails Galatians 5:22-23
‘Remain in me and I will remain in you,’ so of course then I went to that Scripture
cuz that I believe is in Mark well it’s in several of the Gospels but like that
‘abide in me I will abide in you,’ like it- I had done work on that long ago that’s
in some of my past faith- my Faith Wrestle Fridays (previous video series)
but like that piece of like ‘For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed
from the vine and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me yes I am the
vine you are the branches those who remain in me and I in them will produce
much fruit’ Fruit fruit fruit! I was- I was- I couldn’t get away from it ‘for apart
from me you can do nothing’ powerless John 15:4-5
joy, patience, faith I am fruitful but what- then- I kinda like stumbled upon and was like just really like praying and trying to figure out like how do I get
these things out of my heart how do I let go of this striving how- what is this
I keep putting down the same thing at the foot of the cross which I we all do
it we’re human we must rely on Him that’s why it’s faith and so there came
researching fruitful and fruit and produce fruit I of course found the
parable of the soils so the parable of the four soils as it’s in the NLT so
that’s where the seed- the farmer scatters the seed scatters the seed and
then the birds eat it or some of them are scattered among the rocks some of
them are scattered among the thorns and some of them are scattered on rich soil
and so I’m just gonna start in- I’m actually gonna read it from Luke it’s in
I believe three of the Gospels I’m gonna read in Luke 8 verse 11 and Jesus was
explaining the meaning of the parables because he was surrounded by humans his disciples his friends who oftentimes like we don’t get it like will you please
explain to us your stories [laughter] so Luke 8:11 “This is the meaning of the parable: The
seed is God’s Word. The seeds that fell on the footpath represent those who hear
the message, to have the devil come and take it away from their hearts and
prevent them from believing and being saved. The seeds on the rocky soil
represent those who hear the message and receive it with joy. But since they don’t
have deep roots they believe for a while then they’ve
all away when they face temptation. The seeds that fell among the thorns
represent those who hear the message, but all too quickly
the message is crowded out by the cares and riches and pleasures of this life.
And so they never grow into maturity. And the seeds that fell on the good soil
represent honest good-hearted people who hear God’s Word, cling to it, and
patiently produce a huge harvest.” So immediately I was drawn into the word
like ‘crowded heart’ and I- I like- I literally could feel my thorny heart I even have it drawn on my prayer board
because then in The Passion Translation Luke 8:14 reads, “The seed that falls into
the weeds represents (or the thorns) represents the hearts of those who hear
the word of God but their growth has quickly choked off by their anxious
cares, the worries of this world, the riches of this world.”
My striving. “…and the fleeting pleasures of this life,” Sh- Shit that don’t matter, “This is why they never become mature and fruitful.” There’s that dang word again, “The seed
that fell into the good fertile soil represents those lovers of truth who
hear it deep within their hearts. They respond by clinging to the word, keeping
it dear as they endure all things in faith. This is the seed that will one day
bear much fruit in their lives.” That’s The Passion Translation and of course
like I was like ‘heart full of riches’ I wrote this down ‘pleasures and less the
things of this world take my time and attention leaving no time for the word
of the Lord to settle in’ to change everything for me but that is the fuel
to my striving that is why I don’t feel fruitful that is why I’m only
considering fruitful to be a mother or the producer of riches
and success and accolades and that’s not what He means by fruitful because then I
wrote down Luke 8:14, “This is why they never become fruitful and mature,” when
I’m not working on my thorny heart my crowded heart full of thorns and if I
didn’t do that work to heal it and to let it bloom as corny as that sounds the
only thing that would mean is that less people meet my Jesus I am choking out
His light through me and then I wrote not even knowing what was gonna come
next because I’m not trusting my gifts which means I’m not trusting Him and there I was led to the Parable of
Talents which we’ll talk about next time I guess there’s gonna be six videos in
this series [pause] my question – what soil is your heart? have you let the devil come and take the
message away are you struggling to believe and be saved or was it scattered
on that good soil and it started but it got scorched by the sun because you
haven’t done the work you haven’t continued the discipline you haven’t
sought connection you haven’t turned to his Word you haven’t listened to worship
music you haven’t asked the hard questions and so it never grew deep
roots or perhaps you’re in a season like I was and your heart’s crowded by the
things of this world something has become an idol perhaps
it’s your grief it was for me or striving like it was for me success
money a relationship a job those idols are our crowded heart they are thorns
thorns in our heart that choke out his Word and his love I’ll see you next time
surely that will be the last video in the series
