In addition to offering some modest changes on this recipe, I also focus on the beneficial "hormetic" compounds that are NOT micronutrients. These compounds are known as polyphenols, flavonols, and phytochemicals. I also talk about fermentable fiber and other prebiotics that feed beneficial bacteria in the gut that are present in the vegetables and fruits. Additionally, I explains why I've started adding hydrolyzed collagen powder to my smoothie and talk a little bit about something some folks seem to be concerned about: "anti-nutrients."

Yes yoiu want to eat a variety of foods and no too much of anything. Even too much Kale is bad for you. Eating too much of it, you may be giving yourself low-level poisoning of the toxic heavy metal thallium.

I found you through JRE podcast about broccoli sprouts, I can’t wait to start sprouting my own and adding it to my smoothie. It was very interesting to hear what is in yours and why you use the ingredients for your smoothie. Would you give me some pointers on my smoothie? I use 20 oz of filtered water, 4 oz baby spinach, 4 oz broccoli, 4 oz cucumber, 4 oz celery, 4 oz green bell pepper, 4 oz pickled jalapeños ( like for nachos) 1 large avocado, 1 Med lemon in my smoothie. It makes ~64 oz and I drink half that day and refrigerate the other half for the next day. My reasons are plants are healthy and lemon and jalapeños make it taste good(not as good and thought out as yours:-) I’d like to know how mine compares nutritionally and if I should substitute something or add broccoli sprouts or anything else. Thank you so much.

I cant stand to drink veggie smoothies. So, how about these? OK.. Strawberries, bananas, almond milk, water. Sometimes with a few blueberries also. Another one here…Pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, wheat germ, nutritional yeast, bananas and almond milk. Are these 2 very healthy good ones? Let me know, thanks.

hey, I really love this smoothie but kale is not available in my country since it’s not grown here; although we do have ton of other green leafy vegetables but is there any substitutes for kale?

Too much information is debilitating, and I listen to Mercola, and Gundry, and basically follow paleo/keto diet protocals. I respect Rhonda Patric, and really appreciate how efficient she is making complex things pretty clear. When I listen to this recipe, I think, oh no, what about the oxalates in the spinach and kale, and what about the insulin spike in the morning from the banana.

What are you thoughts on the widely spread notion that blending significantly decreases the nutrients in foods through oxidation? Have you discussed this before?

Just a note, getting adequate Vitamin D, Boron, and Magnesium is critical for calcium absorption! Soooo many people are deficient in Boron. As soon as I started taking 3 mg a day I noticed a difference, just felt sturdier and stronger

How do we even know that blending all these ingredients together is safe? The combination of carbs and fats can produce advanced glycation end products. We need postprandial serum measurements of ox-ldl, AGE, and ALE compounds, from different meals. Get this to us Rhonda!
I don't live next to a produce market that I can go to 2-3 times per week so I either juice these or make the smoothie and store them in the freezer in ice trays. Then I put about 12 cubes in a glass and zap it for about 45 second leaving the juice mostly melted but still cold enough to have bits of ice still floating in it. Yes the juicer removes most of the pulp but I don't use the screen so about 20% of the pulp remains and my main purpose for the juicing is to get more micro nutrients than I might want to fill up on . The smoothies also freeze well. I put the cubes into my blender with some coconut milk and a couple extra bits of frozen fruits. The all green smoothies taste better to me with a few drops of pure liquid stevia instead of the apple or banana. I only shop for veges twice a month so I even freeze chopped kale for stir fry, steaming or frozen in a salad.

Green leafy vegetables like chard, spinach and kale have high oxalate content. Sensitive individuals like me would be in pain within minutes of drinking that smoothie. Healthier and non-sensitive people would be okay initially but probably would experience sympthoms of oxalate overload later in life if they continue to have such a big load. Not good for your kidneys, heart, blood vessels, tissues and mitochondria in general.
I truly appreciate your posting your smoothie drinks. I tried to see if you had them in one “folder”. Having been diagnosed with ADHD & OCD, my youtube account goes through some extreme changes. I apologize for asking.
