Pagpabunga ng Lalaking Papaya (Forcing Male Papaya to Bear Fruit Update) – English subtitle

Welcome to my channel The Late Grower The topic for this video is about my male Papaya tree. There are two of them here in the backyard …..and its time to give an update on that male Papaya experiment. This is the same male Papaya that was in the video two months ago. It was still small back then and not yet this tall.. As you can see, it has grown a lot in just two months. In the first video I drove these two sticks into the trunk after finding out that it is a male Papaya thru its flowers. Papaya actually has three sexes: There is the male, the female, and the Hermaphrodite. The Hermaphrodite (Hermie) can bear fruit because it has both sexes, male and female. Based on some articles that I read, Hermie Papayas are preferred by a lot of growers. So two months ago, instead of chopping down this male Papaya, I drove two bamboo sticks in its trunk to force it to produce female flowers as an experiment Male Papayas are normally chopped down especially when its near a female Papaya (nutrient competition) as in this case. This female Papaya beside the male is already fruiting and as you can see it has lots of small fruits on top and two big ones down here. Instead of cutting down this male papaya, I decided to copy what some old growers in the province are doing. According to them, a male Papaya can be forced to fruit by driving a stick in its trunk. It should be done immediately after the first flowering and identification that it is a male Papaya. So let us now look at the result if this male papaya became a female after almost two months. This papaya has grown big and tall… which shows that it started as a male… but now if you’re going to look closer… it is now growing a fruit and on one side you will see flower, also on the other… and they are all female flowers. Let’s look at it again… This is my fruiting male papaya…(possibly now a hermie) (Please excuse the shaking. I’m standing on a stool holding a stretched out selfie stick ๐Ÿ™‚ So this is one way to force a male Papaya to bear fruit… Drive a stick in its trunk, in this case I drove two sticks. Although this male Papaya reacted positively to the experiment, I’m not certain if this method can produce 100% positive result all the time. But at least in this particular experiment, this used to be male papaya is now fruiting. So this is one method to force a male Papaya to bear fruit… Some say there is another method that can be used to force a male papaya to fruit and that is by chopping it’s trunk and they say with such method it is possible to convert a male into a female or a Hermie. I have not tried it but at least in this particular experiment, the sticks worked. You can also try this experiment.. Instead of chopping down your male papaya, why not try this same experiment and you might also be able to convert or force male papaya to become a hermie.. I have read several articles that say fruits of a hermaphrodite Papaya tree are in general sweeter and better than those of female papaya. With that said, Thank you so much for watching and hope to see you in my next videos. PLEASE SUBSCRIBE FOR MORE VIDEOS ON GARDENING. Peace. Just a little hiccup while recording. ๐Ÿ™‚
