Low Carb Sausage Gravy, Gluten Free, Paleo Friendly

[Music] Welcome to HomeMade Healthy. Today I’m making sausage gravy. If you saw my previous video I made wheat belly biscuits made with almond flour and this is a great addition to that. So what we do first is take a pound of pork sausage which I’ve already done. I just browned in a in a pot. What you’re going to do next is add heavy whipping cream and water. So a cup of each. A cup of water and a cup of heavy whipping cream. And you’re going to want to let this
come to a boil. Now for our thickening agent we’re going to use a product
called xantham gum. Which you can get at like a whole foods store. I order mine online. It’s cheaper that way. Anyway this is a great thickener. You need to have your water…. sorry. You need to have your liquid boiling. And as soon as it comes to a boil you want to add only a teaspoon of this. A little
bit of this goes a long way. If you’re impatient and you think you don’t
have enough and you add more the consistency won’t be right. So you have
to have a lot of patience when you’re using this. You can use it for cream of
mushroom soup. Which will have a demonstration of that one as well. Keep
your eye out for that. And we’re just gonna wait for this to come to a boil.
We’re going to add some fresh sea salt and coarse ground pepper. And you can
just do this to your liking. If you like a lot of coarse ground pepper then use a
lot.If not then just use a little bit. We like a lot. Just stir that in. You’ll have
little bits on the bottom of the pan. Just get those stirred in. Those are very
flavorful for the sausage gravy. Now if you like a little bit more spice
you can use spicy sausage or you can just put some red pepper flakes in. If
you don’t want it too spicy but what a little bit more of a bite. You can also what store leftovers in the
freezer and warm them up. Just whisk them in a in a pan. Or store them in the fridge and heat them up in the mornings to put over your biscuits. If you haven’t seen my biscuit recipe show
you should. Those are delicious and so easy. Alright this is almost to a boil. A
little goes a long way. So that’s about all you’re going to use. And you just
sprinkle it over the top. And then you’re going to do a lot of whisking. It’s gonna feel like a long time. You
probably have to whisk it for about five minutes. Okay so i’ve been whisking for
about five minutes. It’s perfect consistency now. Just take
it off the heat and we’ll put it on a biscuit so you can see how awesome it is.
Now this is a biscuit that we took out of the refrigerator and just put in the
toaster oven. These were made a couple of days ago but they look great inside. So we’re just going to spoon our… Now look at this
consistency. Isn’t this great. Just like the real deal. So you don’t want to use too much
xantham gum. It will be the right consistency. So now we’ve got almond
flour biscuits with sausage gravy. A great consistency. Nice and thick. Just a little taste. Oh I can’t wait. It’s
gonna be so good. That’s hot. Oh just right. When you’re low carb, as
long as you’re cooking really good food, you’ll never miss any of the processed
foods. Thank you for watching. Keep your eye out for my next episode. I’m going to make almond flour chocolate chip walnut
cookies. Delish’. Thank you. Have a nice night!
