Interview John DURANT – The Paleo Manifesto – Paleo f(x) – BMoove

hi I’m a wizard john deere on the author of the patio manifesto a book about parallel it’s one of the most important book i think in a fellow community in the US it’s a book if you re write it a long time ago about a year and a half ago for me a year and a half oh yeah okay and the what’s what’s the main time about your book well I start I don’t start with human diet and I don’t start with the Paleolithic the first story that I tell is going to a zoo and learning how to keep gorillas healthy in captivity it’s if you if you start with human health everybody disagrees everybody has a different point of view and it’s very hard to get to a scientific understanding of what’s actually healthy nobody has opinions about how to make a gorilla healthy in captivity and so when you take this evolutionary approach you realize you don’t even have to call it paleo that’s just what smart people do with other species they look at what they how they live in the wild they use that as a starting point to think about how to be healthy today and it doesn’t mean we have to give up modern medicine or modern technology it just means it’s a smart starting point for to cut through the BS today they’re interesting I read your book on the about Gloria’s when they are in the door there are there its food like human foot today a very bad foot on the vendor in Liberty its natural food oh well with you a very important difference on the earth yeah it a lot of animals in zoos are overweight they’re obese and we don’t even realize it because we don’t know what a normal healthy animal looks like I and the number one cause of death for male gorillas in captivity as heart disease and but we feed them these processed at food bars rather than leafy plants like they would eat in the wild and so they switched their diet these two gorillas and they lost weight their blood and biomarkers improved behavioral problems went away us and and signs of emergencies stopped progressing so if their realtor we are dorias we’re almost a peon in the modern world we are like girls in the office yeah and look there are some foods that we’ve partially adapted to every effort is lactose tolerance is a piece of that yeah but if the wild is still a good starting point to think about what a healthy human diet looks like and and and that’s just as true of gorillas as it is of lions as it is of humans so the patio is the solution it is it is to eat and drink food that are for you Foreman in India genetic and speak a bit that were that were better adapted to hey look we are omnivores we are opportunistic omnivores and Wild Hunter gathers at diverse diets over the Paleolithic over the course of the year depending on the geography but that doesn’t mean we’re them into everything and it doesn’t mean that we’re adapted to a diet heavily concentrated in wheat corn and soy which is what most people that are very nuts there’s not one party there is another oh yeah yeah and I find that incredibly liberating because people say oh it’s a diet is restricted no there are all these different hunter-gatherer diets around the world you can choose from do you want to eat like a like a forager in Polynesia you want to eat like a like the Inuit do you want to eat like Native Americans there are all these different rich diets and discuss as gifts right so okay I find it very liberating yeah I eat more food that’s brought into my diet not restricted it or anything and what’s your advice her tomorrow people say oh it’s very interesting i would like you to start off hollywood yet what was your thought by some good for you okay really give it a good shot for a month just say I’m gonna do it and do it for a month and then add back in foods and see how you feel and if there’s a food that’s very important to your culture and you feel fine when you eat it keep eating it right you get you can craft your own diet but use it as a starting point and then you can test an experiment and use your own experience to craft your final battle with your friend is it the same where when I go to the restaurant or then in the air broth it’s very difficult to do it for you oh sorry okay well then you don’t then it’s not that important to you so you should have to prioritize it for a period of time it’s just a month it’s not one hundred percent of the gift you can aperio fifty percent eighty percent it’s better than where than the component food on you know I think when people start it’s very good to try an orthodox paleo approach as close to a hundred percent as possible but then you can adapt and sort of find what works for you so I don’t I don’t eat perfectly failure yeah and what do you think about a more than approach that lot of people say that patio is also risky I no authority it’s a pathology that’s the one people wants to eat when they always see what they eat the aisle right um well what I like about here we go is that we don’t encourage people to count calories we don’t encourage people to obsess over the exact portion size unweight unmeasured just eat the right types of whole foods I think that’s a very healthy attitude to also expand the number of vegetables you eat to try more fermented foods to eat all parts of the animal I think those are very positive approaches towards food you know breastfeeding all these things ah now if if you become obsessed with a few radiance and that’s all you think about then yeah maybe maybe maybe it’s taking it too far okay last question yeah do you plan to write next book after there’s a patio mr. I’ve thought about writing another book on masculinity in the modern world but I’m doing some other projects right now building some businesses before I write another book writing a book is not a good way to make a living it’s not on your project what the what I’m doing some work in venture capital so if you go to wild wild adventures bc i help companies and consumer help that i really believe in I’ll help them raise money and I read it to the 15 business so to do but crickets crickets yeah XO XO yeah yeah XO protein com they’re delicious protein bar is made with cricket flour and frigates are have a great amino acid profile it’s comparable to egg whites wickets all the future babies are the future yeah absolutely think they’re sustainable you can you know that it’s more ethical than a lot of livestock you don’t taste them you’ve you would eat these bars you wouldn’t even know that cricket flour was in there and it’s making an important contribution the food movement so I I support them and they’re doing great so okay thank you John thank you that was hi hi you you
