How to Shop for Healthy Foods : Avoid Bad Fats for Healthy Eating


Hello there, back again! Another tip for healthy
food shopping. We always need to know and there’s always this big thing about fats:
Oh I want them! I need them! I crave them! What are the good ones? What are the bad ones?
Well we all know, lets take it off the top, the bad ones are the trans fats. And what
they’re listed in your ingredients list as, is hydrogenated oils, or partially hydrogenated
oil. And that can be any oil that’s been hydrogenated, or partially hydrogenated. Those are trans
fats. Obviously we know that’s the big hot button. Those are definitely the ones to ignore
and avoid, I should say, ’cause they’re going to give you heart disease and all kinds of
other problems–obesity, diabetes, and blah, blah, blah. We could go on and on. The list
goes on. There’s 3 main oils that are very healthy for you and they’ve been around for,
literally, centuries. Traditional period peoples have eaten them, and they’ve been really good
for health. The first one is olive oil. Obviously, everybody knows about olive oil. That one’s
not a saturated fat, but it’s a really good fat. It’s polyunsaturated. It’s very healthful
for the body. Another one is palm oil. Basically that has a lot of vitamin A in it, believe
it or not. That’s why it has that beautiful orangy, reddy color right there. A lot of
vitamin A and a lot of nutrients in this. This also will help you absorb the nutrients
in the food much better, especially in those fat soluble vitamins. And then of course there’s
coconut oil, which has other benefits too, as well as helpful for your thyroid, helpful
for weight loss, because it has a lot more medium-chain fats in this. And medium chain
fats actually just basically don’t even get stored in the fat in your body, and don’t
help to contribute with fat. They actually help to burn fat so much better. That’s another
reason why coconut oil has become more and more in the limelight, so to speak, nowadays,
and it’s a much healthier fat. So these are the fats that you want to include in your
diet. You can fry with these (not fry fry), but a little bit of a stir fry, and those
type of things. Add them to your meal. It’s very good for you and very healthful for your
body.
