Exercise Tafakula

Exercise Tafakula

So right now we’re in Tonga working with
the Tongans, the French, the Australians, and the New Zealanders. So the Tafakula is done every two
years and this year Tonga is hosting it. For the first week of training here we basically just
did a lot of integration with all the different nations. We did a 100 meter range, did CLS
and what was the third one MCMAP. The Tongan boys were hyped The boys were hyped up for
them to do the ice break-up between the different nations get to know each other
better put a little morale boost before the exercise the next week. For the FTX my platoon has two squads and
then we had a squad of Australians attached to us and then we were a platoon under
the Tongan company Commander. Basically what would happen is the company
commander would come down with the task and then my platoon would go execute and would just report back to the battalion as we accomplished the task given to us. My platoon took part in the exercises
and were given an opportunity to actually see what it’s like when you integrate with other nations and to learn from others so it was really beneficial for myself and the team as well. We’re reminded almost daily that this isn’t about the tactical way to take down
an objective it’s all about making friends and interoperating. We came out here not really knowing what to expect but being able to work like I
said with these different nations and coming out to an island that really I
didn’t know where it was I had to look it up once they told me I was going to Tonga but a
beautiful beautiful island they’re doing good things over here as the military
and definitely wouldn’t have come at all if it weren’t for the Marine Corps giving me that opportunity so it’s pretty awesome. It’s been real, real. Did the Kiwi’s raid your guys barracks last night.
