Chris’ Quick Tip #6 – Physical Exercise for Type I Diabetics

Hi, welcome to Chris’ Quick Tip. Today we’re talking
about physical exercise. There are many benefits to physical exercise, but for Type I Diabetics
like me, we have to worry about hypoglycemia or low blood sugar. If you know you’re going to be exercising
you can prepare by adjusting insulin doses or basal rate on a pump. And pack snacks to have with you. While exercising, make sure you drink plenty of water,
and pay attention to how you feel. If you’re feeling low, take a break
and check your blood sugar. If you’re low, eat a snack to bring your blood sugar up. Flavored milk is one of the best options after exercise
because it’s a mix of carbohydrates, protein, and fat that metabolized slowly. That’s important, because blood sugar can still fall
7 to 11 hours after physical activity. The key is to pay attention to how you’re
feeling and get to know how your body reacts to exercise. Because everyone is different. With the proper planning Type I Diabetics can avoid hypoglycemia, and play outdoors and enjoy the benefits of exercise. Thanks for watching Chris’ Quick Tip. Remember
to help us support JDRF, because our goal is to turn Type One into Type None! For Type I Diabetics like me, we have to worry about Gly-hose… Hypoglycemia. Thanks for watching Chris’ Quick Tip. Just remember… what?
